So who are we, and what is this?

We’re open-minded, progressive thinkers. Leaders in our fields [government, the arts and entertainment, finance, non-profits, technology, education, design…] who have opinions, but aren’t necessarily opinionated — innovators who don’t have all the answers, but who do have a deep sense of curiosity about thinking outside of our fields. And while The Weekend centers on discussions, it’s not a conference on a particular topic. Nor is it a party-affiliated function. It’s a chance to expand horizons, meet great people you might not otherwise encounter, talk, eat, drink, play games, enjoy the New Year and generally not check your email very much.

Each year, our Board of Directors invites a diverse group of mostly 30-, 40-, and 50-somethings to our conference-slash-party-slash-hangout. [We’re happy to invite people outside that age range who think in that age range.]

For 2022/23 we’ll have room for about 150 adults plus their kids if they choose to bring them.  Check your invite for this year’s location.

The daily schedule looks like this: two morning discussion sessions, lunch, two afternoon sessions, dinner and then fun activities at night. Multiple discussions will be happening at once, with tough choices about which to join. Each participant has the chance to speak on equal footing with the others. You can move around as much as you like.

Before Signing Up…

Every group has its unwritten rules. To give a sense of what it’s like to take part in The Weekend, we’ve tried to write a few of ours down:

It’s engaging: There are over ten hours of scheduled activities every day. You’re always welcome to blow a session off and nap or work out – but in general you’ll want to participate. As a practical matter this means you won’t get a ton of one-on-one time with your significant other at The Weekend, so if you bring a spouse, partner or [your relationship terminology here], they must also be a registered and paid up attendee. We’ll want and expect them to participate fully.

It’s off the record: The Weekend is a place for interesting, often prominent, people to relax, talk freely and explore ideas. All discussions are considered private – so no talking about, blogging, tweeting, etc what is said at The Weekend.

It’s relaxed. We strongly discourage any pitching of or soliciting for your company, non-profit, idea or self. The Weekend is meant to be a break from that.
